7 Things You Can't Miss in Tirana, Albania

7 Things You Can't Miss in Tirana, Albania

Danyelle and I loved our time in Albania. The food was good, the people were nice, and there were a lot of unique things to do. Here are some of our favorites:

  1. Climb the Tirana pyramid. In the middle of Tirana, there sits an abandoned pyramid that you can climb. Do it!

  2. People watch in Skanderbeg Square. When we were living in Albania for one month we often walked through and sat in this square. The entire FIFA World Cup showed there on big screens and it was a constant community gathering point for all sorts of events.

  3. Ride the gondola up to the surrounding mountains. It’s a beautiful view and there’s a restaurant at the top.

  4. Eat traditional food at Oda. This restaurant was our favorite local spot. Everything is good. Make sure to leave an offering at the frontwoman statue.

  5. Get the entire tasting menu at Mullixhiu. One of our favorite restaurants of our entire two years traveling, this restaurant combines traditional meals and unique local produce with a mod-rustic twist. It’s very worth it.

  6. Experience the Bunker museums scattered around town. Once upon a time, there were around 200,000 bunkers in Albania. Now many have been turned into historical and artistic venues.

  7. Explore street art and outdoor murals. We had the honor to work with the local municipality while in Tirana and paint a mural. Maybe you can find ours! They invite artists from all over the world to paint the buildings of the city. It’s given a beautiful brand to a wonderful city.
